Implant Types:

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are filled with a cohesive gel that feels more like natural breast tissue. These implants offer a softer, natural appearance and are particularly popular for women who desire a more natural feel. Most silicone implants today are considered “Gummy bear” implants as they are form-stable implants that retain their shape even if the shell is broken. Gummy bear implants provide a natural look, with a lower risk of rippling.

Saline Implants

Filled with sterile saltwater, saline implants are typically inserted empty and filled after being placed in the breast. They are a great option for those looking for an augmented look, and they come with the added benefit of easy size adjustments during surgery.

Incision Placement

  • Inframammary: This incision is made in the fold under the breast, allowing the surgeon to hide the scar while providing excellent access for implant placement.
  • Periareolar:  An incision is made around the lower half of the areola, where the darker skin helps camouflage any scarring.
  • Transaxillary: This option places the incision in the armpit, leaving the breast free of scars. This approach may limit the size and type of implant used.

Implant Placement

  • Subglandular: The implant is placed above the chest muscle, directly behind the breast tissue. This option typically results in a shorter recovery period but may not be the best choice for women with very little natural breast tissue.
  • Submuscular: The implant is placed under the chest muscle. This approach often results in a more natural appearance and minimizes rippling risks and scar tissue formation.
