About Mommy Makeover

Pregnancy is a beautiful experience. However, a woman’s body can change as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations or aging. It is fairly common for the breasts and tummy to be particularly affected. A Mommy Makeover refers to a series of procedures performed together to restore the pre-pregnancy figure.

Typically, a Mommy Makeover includes  a tummy tuck/liposuction and breast surgery (breast augmentation, or breast lift / breast reduction). Each surgery may be performed either at the same time or staged to suit your schedule, needs, and safety. Downtime: 2-3 weeks

Mommy Makeover Procedures

A Mommy Makeover in Fort Worth at Westside Plastic Surgery combines two or more of the following procedures to achieve the look you desire:

Breast Lift and/or Breast Augmentation

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause a loss of firmness and volume in the breasts, which often results in sagging and loose skin. A breast lift can restore a more youthful, attractive breast shape. A breast lift is often combined with implants to augment the size of a woman’s breasts and restore volume and shape.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty), Liposuction

After pregnancy the skin of the abdomen is stretched, and the abdominal muscles become separated. A tummy tuck flattens the abdomen and narrows the waist to create a more contoured midsection. Liposuction can remove excess fat from many of the most common “trouble zones,” including the arms, back, abdomen, hips, and thighs.

Who is a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

The best candidates for a Mommy Makeover are physically healthy, close to their ideal body weight, and finished having children.

When is the best time for a Mommy Makeover?

The best time for a Mommy Makeover is after childbearing is complete. Patients can still have the procedure if they desire more children in the future, but the results achieved may be affected after a subsequent pregnancy.

How does pregnancy permanently change the appearance of my body?

During pregnancy, it is normal for breasts to become larger to develop tissues that facilitate lactation to feed your baby. However, once your milk has dried out, your breasts shrink back down to their previous size (or sometimes smaller). The skin around your breasts that had to stretch to fit over your larger breasts may not be elastic enough to fit snuggly around your downsized contours, which frequently causes droopiness.

Your abdomen is also likely to have stretched skin after your once-pregnant belly returns to its former size. This leaves significant sagging around your midsection, sometimes called a pooch. While diet and exercise can help you to remove most of your baby weight, you may also find that stubborn fat clings to your problem areas like the abdomen, thighs, and arms, which liposuction can help to recontour.

Do I need to have every surgery included in a mommy makeover?

Mommy makeover is a highly customizable surgical plan. Dr. Goggin will listen to your cosmetic goals during your consultation to determine which procedures can best achieve your ideal body. Not all women desire liposuction or larger breasts, so the plan is devised accordingly. If you have other cosmetic goals in mind, additional procedures can be incorporated into your larger mommy makeover plan even if they are not typically included.

Will I undergo all procedures included in mommy makeover at the same time?

Most women choose to have their cosmetic surgeries performed on the same day so that they can have the recovery periods run concurrently and avoid taking additional time off from work. However, you may also decide to spread your procedures out over many months if that is your personal preference. Dr. Goggin will work with you to develop a schedule that ensures your comfort.

How long should I wait after having a baby to have mommy makeover?

Although it is normal to want to improve your post-pregnancy body as soon as possible, cosmetic surgery should be postponed for at least six months. This allows time for your body to recover from childbirth and to lose some of your pregnancy weight with a healthy diet.

If you plan to include a breast surgery in your mommy makeover, Dr. Goggin would suggest waiting until you have finished breastfeeding. Your breasts will be larger than usual while lactating, and only once you are done nursing will your new breast appearance be clear. This allows you and Dr. Goggin to more accurately make decisions about whether breast lift and breast augmentation are appropriate.
