Surgical Options for a Breast Lift
At Westside Plastic Surgery, we offer various incision techniques based on the degree of sagging and the amount of skin that needs to be removed. Dr. Goggin will determine the best option for your needs based on your goals and the condition of your breasts.
Crescent Lift
Ideal for women with minimal sagging, the crescent lift involves a small incision made around the upper half of the areola. This technique is often combined with breast augmentation to achieve a subtle lift and enhanced breast size.
Periareolar (Donut) Lift
This technique involves a circular incision around the areola, allowing for the removal of a small amount of excess skin. The periareolar lift is a great option for women with mild sagging or enlarged areolas and can also be combined with breast implants.
Anchor (Inverted-T) Lift
The anchor lift is the most comprehensive technique, used for women with significant sagging and excess skin. It involves an incision around the areola, a vertical incision down to the breast crease, and a horizontal incision along the breast crease. This approach provides the most dramatic results and is ideal for women with larger breasts or those who have experienced significant weight loss.
Vertical (Lollipop) Lift
For moderate sagging, the vertical lift involves a circular incision around the areola and a vertical incision down to the breast crease. This method allows for significant reshaping and lifting while minimizing visible scarring.
Breast Lift Surgery: From Procedure to Recovery
- Breast lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete.
- During the procedure, Dr. Goggin will carefully make the incisions based on the chosen technique, remove excess skin, and lift the breast tissue into a more youthful position.
- The areolas and nipples may also be repositioned higher on the breast, and any excess skin around the areolas can be trimmed to improve proportion. The nipple is not detached, but is kept connected to the underlying tissues to maintain blood supply and sensation.
- Once the breast has been reshaped, the incisions are closed with sutures, and surgical bra placed.
After surgery, you’ll receive clear, specific instructions to help you heal well. In the first few days, some discomfort, swelling, and bruising are normal and can be managed with pain medication.
Most patients can return to light activities within a few days, but it’s important to avoid lifting anything heavy or engaging in strenuous exercise for at least two weeks.
Dr. Goggin will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progress. Full recovery usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. Over time, incision scars will continue to fade. You’ll notice your breasts are firmer, more lifted, and youthful in appearance.
