About the Procedure

While breast lift and breast augmentation are two separate surgeries, women often choose to combine these procedures to better achieve their aesthetic goals. When performing breast lift with implants, Dr. James Goggin can enhance breasts so that they look both younger and larger with a single surgery.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Breast Lift with Implants?

This surgery is appropriate for women who:

  • Would like to add volume to their breasts.
  • Have visible breast ptosis (sagging).
  • Have nipples that point downward rather than outward.
  • Are in good health.
  • Set reasonable expectations for what plastic surgery can accomplish.

Dr. Goggin arranges a consultation with each patient to assess her candidacy on an individual basis. This appointment is an opportunity for patients to discuss their cosmetic goals and ask any questions about surgery. After listening to these concerns, Dr. Goggin can devise a surgical plan. If he feels that breast lift or breast augmentation alone can fulfill the patient’s goals, he will recommend this during the consultation phase.

Breast Lift with Breast Augmentation Procedure Details

Patients receive general anesthesia prior to surgery to ensure that they remain comfortable. To begin, Dr. Goggin removes some excess skin around the breasts to achieve a lifting effect. Through the same incision points, he also creates small pockets inside the breasts that will hold silicone or saline breast implants. After inserting the implants, Dr. Goggin corrects the projection of the nipples so that they point outward for a youthful, “perky” presentation. He typically completes this procedure in two to three hours.

Recovery for Breast Lift with Implants

Breast lift is an outpatient procedure, which means that patients return home to recuperate the same day as their surgery. Patients should prioritize resting for the first few days, taking prescribed painkillers as necessary to manage any discomfort. They should also wear a compression bra, which not only helps to hold the breasts in place, but also can dramatically reduce the amount of swelling for an easier recovery.

Typically, patients feel well enough to return to work 10 to 14 days after their surgery. Physical activity should be limited to walking until the breasts have time to heal — Dr. Goggin will clear patients for more rigorous exercise at a follow-up appointment.

Breast Lift with Augmentation Results

As swelling and bruising subside, the appearance of the patient’s breasts should improve steadily over a few months. Patients can enjoy their results for a decade or more, but eventually the effects of aging will cause the breasts to droop once again.
