How Otoplasty Helps
The skin and cartilage of the ear are shaped to make the ears less prominent. No matter how old you are, an otoplasty or ear surgery can help improve the appearance and position of the ears and restore your confidence.
Is there an age requirement for otoplasty in children?
Where are the incisions placed for otoplasty?
How long after surgery will the results of otoplasty be visible?
As long as the child is a good candidate for the procedure, he or she may undergo otoplasty once the ear cartilage is stable enough for correction (generally around six years of age).
An incision is made on the back of the ear that is well hidden. Sometimes an incision is needed on the front of the ear hidden in the “bowl” of your ear to further reduce the excess cartilage.
Protruding ears will be immediately improved after surgery. There will be swelling that takes weeks to settle before seeing the final result. Your surgeon will give you more details about your recovery and results based on your individual condition.
